Meh. Why do my second pictures tend to by crooked? I really do fine it odd that I have a tendancy to not shoot them straight.

Time: 6:37:30
Shutter: 1/60
Aperture: f 7.1
Focal Length: 28.0 mm
Iso: 100
WB: Daylight

Time: 6:41:30
Shutter: 1/125
Aperture: f 7.1
Focal Length: 28.0 mm
Iso: 1200
WB: Daylight

I need to stop shooting at Iso 100 all the time and maybe even go back up to 400. 1/60 is just too slow for this project and ends up giving me blurry aspects of my pictures. There’s a lot of visible action in the first shot that was zoomed in on, unfortunately it’s not really crisp.

The second one is more understandable though since it’s cars moving by. I should be able to catch people walking clearly though.

Time: 5:58:51
Shutter: 1/60
Aperture: f 7.1
Focal Length: 105.0 mm
Iso: 100
WB: Daylight

Time: 6:02:23
Shutter: 1/60
Aperture: f 7.1
Focal Length: 28.0 mm
Iso: 100
WB: Daylight

It’s taken me a few days to get these up, but I’ve been taking them. Things have a way of being busy around here lately.

I feel like it’s been a while since anyone has been parked in front of where I take my pictures. Lately, everyone has just seemed so far away. It’s nice to have something going on in the foreground once again.

Time: 6:01:51
Shutter: 1/100
Aperture: f 8.0
Focal Length: 28.0 mm
Iso: 100
WB: Daylight

Time: 6:05:57
Shutter: 1/80
Aperture: f 6.3
Focal Length: 28.0 mm
Iso: 100
WB: Cloudy

Shots taken out of order again. Took them on the way to dropping the dog off at the dog place so going backwards just worked out a bit better. That truck is there again. I believe this is the first time I’ve seen it in the morning. Otherwise nothing too exciting about the image.

The other one, although way more blue then expected/desired is a good here’s what people do in my neighborhood in the morning.

Time: 7:31:21 AM
Shutter: 1/100
Aperture: f 8.0
Focal Length: 30.0 mm
Iso: 100
WB: Auto

Time: 7:26:56 AM
Shutter: 1/80
Aperture: f 6.3
Focal Length: 28.0 mm
Iso: 100
WB: Auto

Even though I got up early yet again today, I decided I was getting bored with the morning shots. Not enough people out and about yet at that hour. Lots of activity this evening though. People on bikes, hanging around drinking coffee and just general out-and-about stuff.

Time: 7:21:10
Shutter: 1/100
Aperture: f 8.0
Focal Length: 63.0 mm
Iso: 400
WB: Auto

Time: 7:24:42
Shutter: 1/100
Aperture: f 8.0
Focal Length: 28.0 mm
Iso: 400
WB: Auto

Today’s first shot is classic NYC. Over on the left there is a cabby who stopped his car just so that he can open his door to spit on the street.

The second one was me not being able to decide what to do in regards to exposure. There were some nice fluffy clouds in a blue sky but that would have left everything in the front really dark. Eh, I think I should have gone for the clouds.

Time: 6:47:16 AM
Shutter: 1/125
Aperture: f 8.0
Focal Length: 10.0 mm
Iso: 200
WB: Auto

Time: 6:51:30 AM
Shutter: 1/125
Aperture: f 8.0
Focal Length: 16.0 mm
Iso: 200
WB: Auto

It’s a blah type of morning. I was up way too early and it’s already so hot and humid outside. Even the pictures are blah. I made sure to go out with my wide angle today solely for the first corner. I found THIS really great article the other day about all the development going on. I know I’ve been bummed about the community center, but the development they’re doing is very community oriented with a decent amount of low-income housing, a new community center and gym.

Time: 6:41:19 AM
Shutter: 1/125
Aperture: f 8.0
Focal Length: 10.0 mm
Iso: 200
WB: Auto

Time: 6:45:39 AM
Shutter: 1/50
Aperture: f 8.0
Focal Length: 22.0 mm
Iso: 200
WB: Auto

Very active 2nd avenue shot today. I like the little girl crossing the street holding her dad’s hand. And I think there’s a guy using the payphone. Wow, a working payphone in Manhattan.

Time: 5:51:17
Shutter: 1/160
Aperture: f 8.0
Focal Length: 28.0 mm
Iso: 100
WB: Auto

Time: 5:54:47
Shutter: 1/80
Aperture: f 8.0
Focal Length: 28.0 mm
Iso: 100
WB: Auto

If you look at the times you will see that they were shot out of order. I wanted to make sure that I got them because I was worried about the potential rain.

I like the framing of the first one. The car really helps make the woman on the corner the focus of the image. And in the second, hmm, really makes one wonder what she’s thinking.

Time: 2:23:20
Shutter: 1/320
Aperture: f 5.6
Focal Length: 68.0 mm
Iso: 100
WB: Cloudy

Time: 2:19:40
Shutter: 1/250
Aperture: f 5.6
Focal Length: 28.0 mm
Iso: 100
WB: Cloudy

Woot! My new 30mm prime arrived today that I got for doing portrait work. I just had to try it out of course, so everyone who watches this journal gets to see the results first.

The first picture is just a bunch of cars. Nothing overly exciting going on there. But I’m totally digging the second one! It’s just so alive. You have the woman on crutches talking with someone across the street, the guy coming towards me who looks like he’s giving me the evil eye and just everyone else and the guy all the way in the back scratching his head! Did I miss anything else of interest?

Time: 5:53:24
Shutter: 1/125
Aperture: f 8.0
Focal Length: 30.0 mm
Iso: 100
WB: Daylight

Time: 5:57:12
Shutter: 1/100
Aperture: f 5.6
Focal Length: 30.0 mm
Iso: 100
WB: Daylight

For me, what has my attention this morning is the slight hint of clouds and their movement in both pictures. It’s slight, but I can see it on my monitor. Anyone else? In the first one especially, it gives me the feeling that storm clouds are preparing to move in throughout the day.

Time: 6:40:57 AM
Shutter: 1/60
Aperture: f 8.0
Focal Length: 10.0 mm
Iso: 400
WB: Cloudy

Time: 6:44:53 AM
Shutter: 1/60
Aperture: f 5.6
Focal Length: 22.0 mm
Iso: 400
WB: Cloudy

Almost added these to the bloopers list. I thought I had moved my WB to Daylight but accidentally set it to Tungsten, giving both images a very nice blue tint. But when opening them up I decided to “cheat” and change the setting to daylight there. I thought these were too good for the blooper list, especially that first one.

Time: 5:55:22
Shutter: 1/320
Aperture: f 8.0
Focal Length: 65.0 mm
Iso: 400
WB: Tungsten (converted to Daylight upon opening)

Time: 5:58:52
Shutter: 1/320
Aperture: f 8.0
Focal Length: 28.0 mm
Iso: 400
WB: Tungsten (converted to Daylight upon opening)

Not that there’s really anything much different, but I really like the way the first corner is looking today. I don’t know, maybe the light is hitting it just right, or the white sky is the perfect background, but I think that the murals are really standing out. Their colors look bright and fresh today.

Time: 5:27:35
Shutter: 1/125
Aperture: f 8.0
Focal Length: 28.0 mm
Iso: 100
WB: Daylight

Time: 5:32:23
Shutter: 1/60
Aperture: f 8.0
Focal Length: 28.0 mm
Iso: 100
WB: Daylight

Wow is it a gorgeous morning out! Just look at that blue sky and fluffy white clouds in the first image! I hope it stays this nice after yesterday’s rain.

I was a silly goof ball again today and went out without my CF card. At least this time I had ejected it and had it laying next to the SanDisk. I hope I break this odd habit I’ve developed soon.

Time: 9:26:13 AM
Shutter: 1/400
Aperture: f 8.0
Focal Length: 10.0 mm
Iso: 100
WB: Daylight

Time: 9:29:55 AM
Shutter: 1/200
Aperture: f 8.0
Focal Length: 22.0 mm
Iso: 100
WB: Daylight

Wow was it disgusting out this morning. The weather people are predicting thunderstorms today. Lets hope so. We could really use a break from the humidity.

Today, in my what has happened in the three months since my shoulder surgery, I want to bring up the new building all the way on the left of the first picture. It’s huge. It’s a gigantic building that will more than likely fill up quickly and add a crapload of people to the platform for my morning commute. They started renting I believe in the end of May, so I’m guessing that people have already started moving in. It doesn’t look to active yet however which kind of surprises me.

Anyway, there are some interesting things about the building. They’re not just luxury hipster apartments to help the haves move into the area and the have nots out. In order for them to put up the building they had to meet two community requirements. One was to have a certain amount of LOW-INCOME HOUSING and the other was for the gym (which if I remember correctly has an Olympic size swimming pool) available to the community for the same rate they would charge those actually living in the building! It’s nice to see that even amongst all this gentrification my area hasn’t completely let morale values fly out the door. So, with this building and the new one on 2nd st and 2nd avenue almost being complete there are three low-income buildings on 2nd avenue between Housten and 2nd. Yeah East Village. Now lets hope those building going up in lieu of the community center also have some community oriented restrictions. And a parking garage, but that’s just me being tangential right now.

Time: 6:42:18 AM
Shutter: 1/100
Aperture: f 5.6
Focal Length: 10.0 mm
Iso: 400
WB: Auto

Time: 6:47:06 AM
Shutter: 1/100
Aperture: f 5.0
Focal Length: 10.0 mm
Iso: 400
WB: Auto

Well, it’s been almost three months since the surgery and I can now more or less pick up my camera. I’m still not all that steady but I don’t have pain and it’s relatively stable anyway.

A lot has changed since my previous post. Spring has changed it an all out hot and humid NYC summer with rain on its way due to moisture saturation level. Mars bar has once again changed their mural and the now defunct pet shop has painted the gate grey to try and hide all the graffiti. Still no news as to what might actually be going in there though.

The big new however is that the community center and surrounding buildings have all been knocked down. No signs are up yet about what kind of high rise is going into the now vacant lot, but one could at least hope for some semblance of community spirit that that building once represented. There is always hope.

Time: 6:00:41
Shutter: 1/250
Aperture: f 5.6
Focal Length: 28.0 mm
Iso: 400
WB: Auto

Time: 6:04:21
Shutter: 1/200
Aperture: f 5.6
Focal Length: 28.0 mm
Iso: 400
WB: Auto

I had been hoping to get these last three up before today but it ended up not happening. I had shoulder surgery on Wednesday the 13th so it’s possible that it might be a while before anymore go up. It’s been hard for me to sit in front of the computer, hence the week delay before some of these made it up.

So yeah, I don’t know when yet I’ll be able to pick up the camera again. The Dr. originally said I was going to be in a sling for three weeks. I’m seeing him tomorrow, so we’ll see what he says then. Anyway, so yeah. Looks like the project is on a bit of a break. Hope everyone enjoys the last few sets taken.

Time: 7:35:43AM
Shutter: 1/250
Aperture: f 5.6
Focal Length: 10.0 mm
Iso: 100
WB: Auto

Time: 7:39:03AM
Shutter: 1/200
Aperture: f 5.6
Focal Length: 10.0 mm
Iso: 100
WB: Auto

The gas station where I stand to take y pictures was packed. I couldn’t even stand in my usual spot because that white truck was in the way. Took me a bit of time to set up since I was changing lenses and the gas attendant got kind of annoyed that I was standing there since it prevented him from cramming more cabs into his station. I wonder if all those off-duty cabs in the second picture are heading around the corner to get gas?

Time: 5:15:30
Shutter: 1/800
Aperture: f 5.6
Focal Length: 10.0 mm
Iso: 100
WB: Daylight

Time: 5:19:16
Shutter: 1/200
Aperture: f 5.6
Focal Length: 10.0 mm
Iso: 100
WB: Daylight

Didn’t have my hood, but I’m sure it would have been usefull.

It’s not easy to see but in the second picture, the third store on the right whose name is cut off moved.
It was a gorgeous day out. Everyone was out and about shopping or just strolling and enjoying the weather. One of the things I love about this time of the year is the warmth in the air and the blue sky. In the summer theirs to much haze from the heat and everything’s grey.
They’ve put scaffolding up in front of the youth center in the first shot. I hope they’re not tarring it down but just renovating. I keep hearing conflicting info on this subject.

Time: 6:02:19
Shutter: 1/320
Aperture: f 7.1
Focal Length: 28.0 mm
Iso: 400
WB: Auto

Time: 6:05:55
Shutter: 1/320
Aperture: f 5.6
Focal Length: 28.0 mm
Iso: 400
WB: Auto

I don’t what it is but people are creeping into the corner of my pictures everywhere. Nothing fantastic again about the first, but I like the clouds in the second. The guy here doesn’t bother me as much as the previous day’s.

Time: 3:23:46
Shutter: 1/500
Aperture: f 10.0
Focal Length: 28.0 mm
Iso: 800
WB: Cloudy

Time: 3:27:50
Shutter: 1/400
Aperture: f 5.6
Focal Length: 28.0 mm
Iso: 400
WB: Cloudy
