I need to stop shooting at Iso 100 all the time and maybe even go back up to 400. 1/60 is just too slow for this project and ends up giving me blurry aspects of my pictures. There’s a lot of visible action in the first shot that was zoomed in on, unfortunately it’s not really crisp.

The second one is more understandable though since it’s cars moving by. I should be able to catch people walking clearly though.

Time: 5:58:51
Shutter: 1/60
Aperture: f 7.1
Focal Length: 105.0 mm
Iso: 100
WB: Daylight

Time: 6:02:23
Shutter: 1/60
Aperture: f 7.1
Focal Length: 28.0 mm
Iso: 100
WB: Daylight

It’s a blah type of morning. I was up way too early and it’s already so hot and humid outside. Even the pictures are blah. I made sure to go out with my wide angle today solely for the first corner. I found THIS really great article the other day about all the development going on. I know I’ve been bummed about the community center, but the development they’re doing is very community oriented with a decent amount of low-income housing, a new community center and gym.

Time: 6:41:19 AM
Shutter: 1/125
Aperture: f 8.0
Focal Length: 10.0 mm
Iso: 200
WB: Auto

Time: 6:45:39 AM
Shutter: 1/50
Aperture: f 8.0
Focal Length: 22.0 mm
Iso: 200
WB: Auto

For me, what has my attention this morning is the slight hint of clouds and their movement in both pictures. It’s slight, but I can see it on my monitor. Anyone else? In the first one especially, it gives me the feeling that storm clouds are preparing to move in throughout the day.

Time: 6:40:57 AM
Shutter: 1/60
Aperture: f 8.0
Focal Length: 10.0 mm
Iso: 400
WB: Cloudy

Time: 6:44:53 AM
Shutter: 1/60
Aperture: f 5.6
Focal Length: 22.0 mm
Iso: 400
WB: Cloudy

Almost added these to the bloopers list. I thought I had moved my WB to Daylight but accidentally set it to Tungsten, giving both images a very nice blue tint. But when opening them up I decided to “cheat” and change the setting to daylight there. I thought these were too good for the blooper list, especially that first one.

Time: 5:55:22
Shutter: 1/320
Aperture: f 8.0
Focal Length: 65.0 mm
Iso: 400
WB: Tungsten (converted to Daylight upon opening)

Time: 5:58:52
Shutter: 1/320
Aperture: f 8.0
Focal Length: 28.0 mm
Iso: 400
WB: Tungsten (converted to Daylight upon opening)

Not that there’s really anything much different, but I really like the way the first corner is looking today. I don’t know, maybe the light is hitting it just right, or the white sky is the perfect background, but I think that the murals are really standing out.
Wow was it disgusting out this morning. The weather people are predicting thunderstorms today. Lets hope so. We could really use a break from the humidity.

Today, in my what has happened in the three months since my shoulder surgery, I want to bring up the new building all the way on the left of the first picture. It’s huge. It’s a gigantic building that will more than likely fill up quickly and add a crapload of people to the platform for my morning commute. They started renting I believe in the end of May, so I’m guessing that people have already started moving in. It doesn’t look to active yet however which kind of surprises me.

Anyway, there are some interesting things about the building. They’re not just luxury hipster apartments to help the haves move into the area and the have nots out. In order for them to put up the building they had to meet two community requirements. One was to have a certain amount of LOW-INCOME HOUSING and the other was for the gym (which if I remember correctly has an Olympic size swimming pool) available to the community for the same rate they would charge those actually living in the building! It’s nice to see that even amongst all this gentrification my area hasn’t completely let morale values fly out the door. So, with this building and the new one on 2nd st and 2nd avenue almost being complete there are three low-income buildings on 2nd avenue between Housten and 2nd. Yeah East Village. Now lets hope those building going up in lieu of the community center also have some community oriented restrictions. And a parking garage, but that’s just me being tangential right now.

Time: 6:42:18 AM
Shutter: 1/100
Aperture: f 5.6
Focal Length: 10.0 mm
Iso: 400
WB: Auto

Time: 6:47:06 AM
Shutter: 1/100
Aperture: f 5.0
Focal Length: 10.0 mm
Iso: 400
WB: Auto

Well, it’s been almost three months since the surgery and I can now more or less pick up my camera. I’m still not all that steady but I don’t have pain and it’s relatively stable anyway.

A lot has changed since my previous post. Spring has changed it an all out hot and humid NYC summer with rain on its way due to moisture saturation level. Mars bar has once again changed their mural and the now defunct pet shop has painted the gate grey to try and hide all the graffiti. Still no news as to what might actually be going in there though.

The big new however is that the community center and surrounding buildings have all been knocked down. No signs are up yet about what kind of high rise is going into the now vacant lot, but one could at least hope for some semblance of community spirit that that building once represented. There is always hope.

Time: 6:00:41
Shutter: 1/250
Aperture: f 5.6
Focal Length: 28.0 mm
Iso: 400
WB: Auto

Time: 6:04:21
Shutter: 1/200
Aperture: f 5.6
Focal Length: 28.0 mm
Iso: 400
WB: Auto

I had shoulder surgery on Wednesday the 13th so it’s possible that it might be a while before anymore go up. It’s been hard for me to sit in front of the computer, hence the week delay before some of these made it up.

So yeah, I don’t know when yet I’ll be able to pick up the camera again. The Dr. originally said I was going to be in a sling for three weeks. I’m seeing him tomorrow, so we’ll see what he says then. Anyway, so yeah. Looks like the project is on a bit of a break.
